"While you are guiding others,
who is going to guide you?”
Rom 2:21 The Message
On a rare day off, hubby and I stroll through the unusually sunny streets of Swanage, a quaint coastal town not far from our home. It's summer, so all the shop doors are open and half the stock is outside on the pavement, colourful bait for the growing footfall of the season.
It works.
We stroll in and out of trinket shops and second-hand places, galleries and a place with adorable pet things of all shapes and sizes.
In Swanage, the big-name chain stores are few and there is a unique character beyond every threshold.
There are a few clothing shop windows that catch my eye. Everything is so colourful and summery and perfect for the warmer weather.
That's when I came across the find of the year.
The most beautiful flowery slip dress reels me in. Just to surprise me with a second, just-as-pretty slip dress on the inside! It's an inside-out and outside-in dress that you can wear both ways! How clever is that??!
The price does show that you get two for the price of two, but what a brilliant idea!
My friend Lydia always created the cutest summer dresses for me when we were still in Jeffreys, but the light material also called for a knee-length camisole to go with it. With this little number, that problem is sorted too.
Which made me think how we sometimes put on our spiritual camisoles when we are with some people. How we are so careful to control what's visible underneath our pretty outsides.
But if we can be the same on the inside as we are on the outside, like these cleverly thought-out summer dresses, then it doesn't matter where we are, or who we are with. They can turn us inside out and yet all they should see is... prettiness.
Pretty outside and pretty inside.
While I teach others how to make beautiful outer dresses, I must never forget to make my own inner dress beautiful too.
For when I get turned inside out.
